1. Blog Assignment #1: Due Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Midnight
Research exactly what happened on 9/11/2001. Utilizing your research, create a chronological list of events that occurred beginning on September 11, 2001 to present day.  You should have at least 15 markers on your timeline.
          Information may include:
- When the hijackers boarded the plane
- The times of the different attacks (NYC and D.C.)
- The time the towers fell
- Time broadcasted on the news
- Security response
- Response to the attack (i.e. war)
          Include the reputable sources you used for your timeline in MLA format.  Use this website for help:

    7:59 am: The four airplanes that were hijacked began taking off.
    8:31 am: ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC broadcast the news.
    8:34 am: BBC broadcasts the news.
    8:42 am: The last communication made with air traffic control was made.
    8:46 am: The first crash occurred, hitting the north tower of New York’s World Trade Center.
    8:48 am: CNN broadcasts the news.
    8:50 am: President George W. Bush received news of the first plane crash
    9:03 am: The second crash happened, hitting the south tower of the World Trade Center.
    9:05 am: Bush learned of the attacks.
    9:36 am: Secret Service agents evacuated Vice President Dick Cheney and his aides from his office to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center.
    9:37 am: Flight 77 crashed into Pentagon.
    9:45 am: The White House and U.S Capitol were evacuated.
    9:59 am: The south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
    10:03 am: The fourth hijacked plane crashed, in a field in Shanksville Pennsylvania.
    10:28 am: The north tower of New York’s World Trade Center collapsed.
    11: 02 am: New York City Mayor ordered an evacuation of lower Manhattan, alerting everyone south of Canal Street to get out.
    8:30 pm: President Bush gave his final address of the day from the White House.


    Within the past years, confidence in the country’s safety from terrorism has increased dramatically. Most Americans are satisfied with the action’s the country’s taken in response to 9/11. “Sixty seven percent are satisfied with the way the United States has responded to the attacks, and sixty four percent think the country is safer now than it was before 9/11”(ABC News).

  4. Timeline of Tragedy on 9/11
    o The first of the four hijacked planes to take off took off at 7:59 am. The next three took off at 8:14 am, 8:20 am, and 8:42 am.
    o The first crash occurred at 8:46 am. The plane hit the north tower of the world trade center.
    o The second crash happened at 9:03 am. The plane hit the south tower of the world trade center.
    o President George W. Bush learned of the first two attacks at 9:05 am. He was in an elementary school in Sarasota, Florida.
    o At 9:31 am, president Bush spoke in an address from the elementary school in Florida.
    o Secret Service agents evacuated Vice President Dick Cheney and his aides from his office at 9:36 am. They went to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a bunker that is located underneath the White House.
    o The third flight to take off crashed into the pentagon at 9:37 am.
    o Shortly after the third crash, the white house and U.S. capital were evacuated (9:45 am).
    o The south tower of the world trade center collapsed at 9:59 am after burning for 56 minutes.
    o The last plane crashed at 10:03 am in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The passengers revolted and were able to stop the hijackers from crashing into a more populated area.
    o The north tower burned for 102 minutes before it collapsed at 10:28 am.
    o At 11:02 am the mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani ordered an evacuation of lower Manhattan.
    o President Bush addressed the country from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana at 1:04 pm, telling citizens that the military was on high alert.
    o At 5:20 pm, the world trade center building collapsed completely from ancillary damage.
    o President Bush gave his final address at 8:30 pm from the white house. He informed Americans that he set up federal defense against additional attacks.

    8:14 A.M. - United Airlines Flight 175, a Boeing 767 with 65 people on board, departs from Boston's Logan International Airport bound for Los Angeles International Airport.

    8:20 A.M. - American Airlines Flight 77, a Boeing 757 with 64 people on board, departs Washington Dulles International Airport bound for Los Angeles International Airport.

    8:42 A.M. - United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757 with 44 people on board, departs from Newark International Airport bound for San Francisco International Airport.

    8:45 A.M. - American Airlines Flight 11 crashes into the north World Trade Center tower (1 Tower).

    8:46 A.M. - Jet fighters are scrambled from Otis Air National Guard Base in Fallmouth, Massachusetts.

    9:03 A.M. - United Airlines Flight 175 crashes into the south World Trade Center tower (2 Tower).

    9:31 A.M. - President George W. Bush makes a statement from Emma Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida calling the crashes an "apparent terrorist attack."

    9:40 A.M. - American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the west side of the Pentagon.

    9:45 A.M. - An operator receives a cell phone call from a passenger on United Airlines Flight 93, who reports that the flight has been hijacked and that the passengers are going to fight back.

    9:48 A.M. - The White House's West Wing and the U. S. Capitol are evacuated.

    9:59 A.M. - The south World Trade Center tower (2 Tower) collapses.

    10:07 A.M. - United Airlines Flight 93 crashes near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

    10:28 A.M. - The north World Trade Center tower (1 Tower) collapses.

    8:30 P.M. - President George W. Bush addresses the nation from the Oval Office.

    2. 8:14 United Airlines flight 175 leaving from Boston going to LA.
    3. 8:20 American Airlines flight 77 departs from Dulles International Airport in DC.
    4. 8:41 United Airlines flight 93 departs from EWR en route to San Francisco.
    5. 8:46 Mohammed Atta crashes the plane into floors 93-99 of the North tower.
    6. 9:03 Hijackers fly flight 175 into floors 75-85 of the South Tower.
    7. 9:59 The South tower of the World Trade Center collapses.
    8. 10:07 After crew members are aware of the attacks on New York, passengers and crew members try to retake control of the flight, however the hijackers crash the plane into a field in Pennsylvania. No one survived.
    9. 10:28 The North Tower collapses 102 minutes after burning with jet fuel.
    10. 9/13/2001 President bush says he will not rest until Bin Laden is dead.
    11. 10/7/2001 War in Afghanistan begins and television news channels air footage of Bin Laden,
    12. November 2001 American soldiers start offering $25 million reward for Bin Laden
    13. 12/13/01 Pentagon releases a film of Bin Laden discussing the 9/11 attacks at an Al-Qaida dinner.
    14. 3/20/03 U.S. invades Iraq.
    15. 5/1/11 Bin Laden is killed by a U.S. raid in Pakistan.

    -9/11/01 7:59am – Flight 11 leaves Logan International Airport bound for Los Angeles.

    -9/11/01 8:14am – United Airlines Flight 175 leaves Boston Logan Airport going to Los Angeles with five hijackers on it.

    -9/11/01 8:20am – American Airlines Flight 77 leaves Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia for Los Angeles with five hijackers on it.

    -9/11/01 9:59am – The South Tower of the WTC collapses, 56 minutes after being hit.

    -9/11/01 10:03am – Flight 93 crashes into a field, however its target was the White House.

    -9/11/01 10:10am - Part of the west side of the Pentagon collapses.

    -9/11/01 10:28am - The North Tower of the WTC collapses, 112 minutes after being hit.

    -9/11/01 8:30pm - President Bush addresses the nation from the White House.
